Black Friday

The Pie Hole has been boarded up, Darling Enterprises has collapsed, and George Michael needs to find another law firm to sing in.

Yes, folks, it's happened: ABC has cancelled Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, and Eli Stone in one fell swoop.

Goodbye, my dear Pieman. May you and Chuck find a way to touch and love again. Goodbye, Jeremy Darling. You're a complete disaster, but really hot to watch anyway. Goodbye, Eli Stone -- I only watched one episode, but I know a lot of other fans adore this show. Goodbye, Aunt Vivian and Aunt Lily. I will miss you most of all.

:::sniffle::: I need to go and be depressed now. :(

This news depresses me ever so much--I had trouble getting to sleep last night because of it.

But the good news (if you can call it that) is that they're still going to air another seven episodes. So it's not over yet! And Brian Fuller has said that he's going to try his best to wrap up the story lines either via comic book form or film form.

Still, it's a very, very sad day, and I don't think any of Chuck's homeopathic pies can do any good now.

Lisa: This morning people had sent me the new Lost promo and the news that PD had been cancelled. I read the bad news first and didn't even open the rest of my emails. Then I did... after this post. I'm going to post the Lost thing in a second. :)

JTN: You are a true fan for not being able to sleep last night. I'm so very sad, but as you say, they're going to try to wrap up everything. Kristin at E has seen the final script and says it wraps up a lot nicely, but if you're a true fan of the show it will leave a LOT hanging in the balance. :(

This is cruel and unusual, especially considering how many times I was laughing my ass off at this week's show (best line, as usual, went to Emerson: [checking his pockets] "Now where did I put that rat's ass I could give?")

So. Very. Depressing. I go from here to write my own eulogy ...

I mean, I'm going to go write my own eulogy for the show, not MY own eulogy. I'm not quite that devastated by the news.

Close, though.

Aw man, I really like Eli Stone. It started out kind of uneven but really hit its stride in the second half of last season. I will definitely miss it. Any word on how many more eps we'll get?

And is it just me, or is it getting hard to watch ANY new show nowadays, because it seems more likely than not that it'll get canceled once you decide to like it? Why bother starting to watch a new show when it'll probably leave you just when you start to love it?

I know the history of TV is littered with dead pilots or one season wonders, but it seems like lately, there's just a ton more (network) shows getting canceled then there used to be.

Is it just a case of network executives refusing to accept the reality of the TV landscape nowadays, that with the spread of cable (and original programming on cable) and the rise of DVRs, people are watching TV differently and there's more supply to meet the same amount of demand so network shows (that used to be the only game in town) simply can't pull in the kind of numbers they used to? Are the networks just stubbornly refusing to adjust their expectations, or are the numbers on ALL these shows (and the plethora of other recently axed shows) REALLY that bad?

Or is it just me?

I will miss eli the most because I was looking forward to it replacing boston legal as my funny lawyer show. I honestly think with the possibility of an actors strike this was the worst possible thing abc could do unless they plan on uncanceling boston legal
