I was moved by all of them.

This is a wonderful trio of episodes. Each had such powerful and touching endings. My favorite being the one in which Buffy kisses Spike in thanks for his loyalty.

But kudos to SMG for her speech and reaction at the end of "Forever".

My second favorite ending was the cliffhanger with Glory showing up and Tara seeing the "beautiful green light". Wllow was wonderful at the end, but she made me so angry during the episode. Chill out Willow. And when Anya said that Willow could sleep with her, it really impressed me and made me realize again how much I really adore her. Willow needs to take a page out of Anya's cheery and helpful book instead of meddling with the innocent (Dawn) and the dangerous (Majiks).Lisa(until further notice)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-56536882784157608192011-08-31T04:18:59.029-04:002011-08-31T04:18:59.029-04:00"Forever":
- My first comment is somethi..."Forever":
- My first comment is something both Nikkis commented on, and that's the formalities a person has to deal with after a loved one dies. I have never had to go through this myself, so I'm speaking from the outside, but I've always found it terrible; I think that, in all my sadness and hurt, I wouldn't want to be picking coffins and flowers and wondering what to wear. It feels like it's all a show for other people, because the dead person is, well, dead, and they don't really know or care what coffin they're in or what type of clothes I'm wearing.
- Poor Spike, he really DID like Joyce... I'm so going to miss their moments together.
- Ah, Willow, Willow... for someone so clever you act so dumb sometimes!
- Thank you, Buffy, for that slap! I know she's in pain and everything, but she's been extremely annoying ever since she showed up!

"Intervention":
- You know, I can look as excited and exclaim "Spike, oh, Spike!" without having to be programmed...
- "Darn your sinister attraction!": Truer words have never been spoken.
- Willow is so lovely in this episode! First with all that protectiveness of her books (this is one of the many reasons why she's one of my favourite characters), then trying to be understanding and compassionate of Buffy(bot).
- I never bought that they didn't understand that the Buffybot was a robot because they thought that her weirdness was a result of her mourning, especially since they got that April was a robot from the first second they saw her, but I don't really care because I always focus on the awesomeness that is Spike in this episode.
(I probably would have given Dawn up without even having to be tortured...)

"Tough Love":
- Ben is such a sad, sad character! In my opinion, he is one of the most tragic characters ever to be introduced.
- I hate being on Dawn's side, but Buffy could, indeed, have told her that they would take her away.Efthymianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-76900491093980932782011-08-31T01:29:03.471-04:002011-08-31T01:29:03.471-04:00In "Intervention," I couldn't help b...In "Intervention," I couldn't help but think the Spike/Buffy dialogue reads like bad fanfiction. I love it! But, the end gives us Spike's finest hour. Consider how far Spike's character has grown this season. His refusal to give up the key here is surprising to us since we know Spike is always looking out for #1 (remember the dialogue with Olaf re: babies "what do you think, the hospital?") Plus his slams and insults to Glory are awesome sauce.

In "Disharmony" we see how far Cordy has traveled from her high school persona, and it's nicely expressed in her "air pockets" speech. With Harmony, you can't immediately tell she's evil (if you hadn't been watching Buffy), because her high school character is so close to her vamped character!

Can we talk about the scene on the phone with Willow? "And here I thought she was just a great big lesbo? Oh, really? uh-huh? Well, that's just GREAT for you!!" This makes me laugh so hard, every time, the way Charisma plays it is perfect.

Harmony's attempt to not eat Cordelia reminds me of the sharks in Finding Nemo "Fish are Friends, Not Food!"

Gunn: "don't we kill 'em anymore?" Cordelia: "I AM the needy" (re: giving away her clothes)

Angel is still keeping mum on sleeping with Darla, actively lying about it actually.

"Dead End" has all the funny moments already mentioned, like the "evil hand" goosing Lilah, and the buddy cop movie jokes by the host. I appreciate the deadpan humor regarding Angel's singing. There must be another way! Wes: Think, damnit!

"Belonging" is exploring just that for each of the characters. Cordelia: does she belong in show biz or helping the helpless? Does Gunn belong back in his neighborhood or in his new world of demon hunting? Does Wesley belong in charge and in a leadership position or is he the failure his dad thinks? Does Angel belong in our world, or in the past where a few bob could buy you a few pints and a wench?

Angel doesn't even get a fist bump from Gunn/Wesley's duo, pointing out how out of the pack he is. Angel "feels" the sun on his face at the commercial shoot, pointing out how that experience separates him from reality. Wesley's conversation with his dad is painful to watch.

Landoch is a nice parallel/contrast as a champion from a clear-cut world of "might is right", to Angel's more nuanced role as a morally conflicted hero in the very murky moral environs of Los Angeles.

Finally, Lorne's story revealed in this episode reminds me a bit of a ostracized gay teen from a backwater small town running away to seek acceptance in the big city. I like how Lorne uses the waves of energy to help people rather than slay. He truly is more nonviolent and Keritas' nonviolence policy reflects that.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05997191228899274706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-91028967926070796132011-08-30T23:09:19.598-04:002011-08-30T23:09:19.598-04:00I remember watching 'Forever' for the firs...I remember watching 'Forever' for the first time and thinking, "Hey. This is a lot like 'Monkey's Paw'!
That story always creeped me right out as a kid, and the thought of zombie-Joyce horrified me. I'm so glad Joss didn't show it.

I started crying during the scene where Giles was listening to THE song. Yes, yes, I'm way over-emotional. ;)

I wish they'd mentioned something about Angel's trip to Sunnydale and Joyce's death on 'Angel'.

The end of 'Tough Love' kills me. When Willow says, "She's my girl". How can you NOT tear up at that line? Poor Tara. :(

Onto Angel--

I mentioned earlier that I'd love to see an episode about Lorne and his background, and I got my wish! Hooray!
I frickin' ADORE him!

But first, 'Disharmony'.
Sometimes the opening credits are a bit spoilery. I hate that. Although I was hoping we'd see Willow in LA!

Harmony switching sides?! Didn't see THAT one coming! *eye roll*

Cordy is right. Angel should smile more. He has a great smile.

Dead End--
I loved the bickering between Angel and Lindsay at the parole officers apartment. I watched it three times, it made me LOL!

And FINALLY, during this episode, I came around and started to like him ("I've got this evil hand problem". HA!)...and then he leaves. Bah.

Belonging--
I really enjoyed this episode!
Angel looking for the demon, "Heeeere, kitty kitty."
Great cliffhanger ending!

But the Gunn plot...er, what?
Did that have a point at all? Because if it did, I didn't get it.

(vw: fookera. ...no. No, I won't even go there.) ;)Christina Bnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-12160422652042335692011-08-30T22:33:09.515-04:002011-08-30T22:33:09.515-04:00@TQM, agreed, Lorne brings the awesomeness. Only, that's not what she's doing. This involves her own personal horror.

I find that the B/A relationship is played differently on the two shows - while on Angel Buffy is his ex, on Buffy they force it down our throats. Sorry, I don't like the cemetery scene. It just slows the episode down.

I bet Joss wrote the X/A pillow talk scene. It sounds like him.

On Buffy, literature has power. Some one should explain that to Doug Ford (Toronto reference)

Might I say - Yay! Joel Grey! I've loved him since I saw George M on TV. He's playing a wizard - an audition for his Broadway role in Wicked? :)

I remember that when Spike was bitten by the Gora demon there was speculation that he might become human.

Where can I get a Spikebot? Sarah does a fantastic job with the Buffybot, doing a great April impression at the same time. I guess Warren uses the one template.

I find it interesting that Nikki F concentrates on Buffy in the desert when I usually glaze over at that part of the episode (though I know it will be significant.) For me, this is one of the best Spike episodes, where he transforms from gross stalker to hero.

When Ben transforms to Glory, why does she have nail polish but not clothing?

Xander is a male sort of supporter - a jock strap?

Giles steps back because he's not Dawn's father - but Buffy isn't her mother, either. Is he doing it because he thinks it's for Buffy's own good, or because he's balking at the commitment?

I don't know if anyone else watches True Blood - but Willow is wearing her Marnie dress.Colleen/redeem147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-34485702824862719282011-08-30T22:17:45.200-04:002011-08-30T22:17:45.200-04:00I was super-shocked at what Glory did to Tara in &...I was super-shocked at what Glory did to Tara in "Tough Love", I totally didn't see that coming. The small little whimper of pain Tara made when Glory broke her hand was so believable it was almost painful to watch in a way.

"Angel" is steamrolling ahead at full speed and it ROCKED this week! Lindsey proves again just what a complex character he is (I'm sure a lot of male viewers were using "evil hand" as an excuse for many naughty things after this episode aired). Speaking of naughty, I felt very much so when I saw smokin hot Cordelia in that tiny bikini. Charisma Carpenter just gets more beautiful as the seasons go on!

Most of all, I'm loving Lorne. He's becoming not only my favourite "Angel" character, but probably one of my favourite folks in all of pop culture! His look, his dialogue, his personality...everything about him is vibrant and entertaining.
R.I.P. Andy Hallett :( Thanks for giving us such a kick-ass character. The Question Marknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-59310854980703148872011-08-30T22:06:41.006-04:002011-08-30T22:06:41.006-04:00This is my favourite home stretch of the series.
...This is my favourite home stretch of the series.

One could argue that the latter portion of S5 is Spike's finest hour. Oh, sure, his "relationship" with the Buffy-bot is embarrassing, but the pounding he took from Glory, without coughing up The Key, shows us there's a new Spike in town. An honourable Spike. He earned that kiss from Buffy. And, how about trying to spin Bob Barker as The Key? The minions willing to bring Glory the limp and beaten body of Bob Barker! HA! I love these guys. The lengths they would go to for Glorificous.

The whole Spike/Dawnie relationship has some great moments, some yet to come.

WTF? What on earth got into Willow and Tara with that little fightlet they were having? If you're going to fight, make it about something.

I love the nonsense coming out of Tara's brainsucked mouth.

Sloane-clone (with a tail).

The closing scene of "Forever" is one of my faves. The shadow of the risen Joyce shuffling past the living room window, un-noticed by the distraught Summers girls. And then that creepy knock on the door (apparently Joyce was buried without her front door key). And then Dawnie comes to her senses and rips up the picture and the girls hit the floor hugging and crying. I was right there with them (off camera of course). BtVS at its best.Page48https://www.blogger.com/profile/09728079057077761364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-82510291507206718912011-08-30T20:02:21.194-04:002011-08-30T20:02:21.194-04:00“Forever” opens with Buffy casket-shopping. I like...“Forever” opens with Buffy casket-shopping. I liked the ambiguous way in which this scene was shot, to make viewers wonder if it was a dream sequence. No. Just casket-shopping. I was also reminded of what a RACKET the funeral business is.

Settling down to watch the first of SIX Buffy and Angel episodes (as opposed to only one each last week) felt like the beginning of life slowly returning to normal following a death. You start back to work, maybe, or go shopping, you slowly begin to “move on” after the shock and grief of losing someone dear to you. Our rewatch schedule, whether by design or by accident, sort of fell into the strange, disrupted pattern of life one experiences in the aftermath of death.

I thought the quiet piano music that played over the graveside service – and later when Buffy and Angel were talking – was very beautiful. And speaking of music, are we starting to hear the tiniest hint of a Buffy/Spike theme in these episodes? Lots of gorgeous music this week!

I’m glad that they gave an explanation in the story for Hank Summers’ absence. He simply couldn’t be reached. That works for me.

Anya, to Giles (regarding Dawn): “She gets to fondle the money?” Hee. :)

I like how Spike calls Dawn “Little Bit”. It’s one of my favorite nicknames for babies and pets, etc. So cute and sweet.

We were not shown the zombie-horror version of Joyce that Dawn raised, and I think that was brilliant and extremely cool. It was left to our (hopefully) over-active imaginations.

Moving on to “Intervention”. Buffy: “Some minutes are harder than others.” That’s it, in a nutshell!

LOL, Spike’s got it BAD! It occurred to me that the fantasy/role-playing eroticism of this episode must’ve been exquisite torture for some fans. I thought the Buffy-Bot was great fun. And I now see why April was so important to the story. She paved the way for the Buffy-Bot, so we could suspend our disbelief and buy into it.

I know it can get really cold in the desert at night, but when we first saw Buffy out in the shimmery desert it was daytime, and she was wearing a thick sweater and a coat. Didn’t make sense to me.

What a pretty kitty (mountain lion)! A very beautiful and powerful spirit guide for the Slayer.

In “Tough Love”, it wasn’t immediately obvious to me the level of damage Glory inflicted on Tara. I could see that she had begun feeding on Tara’s mind, but I thought that Willow’s arrival was timely enough to save Tara from lasting harm. I was wrong.

It was obvious and necessary that, for purposes of the story, SOMEONE was going to have to spill the beans to Glory that Dawn was the Key. I like how Tara, while not in her right mind, inadvertently (and innocently) told Glory. That way, no one turned traitor to do it, and no one broke under torture and therefore had to deal with the guilt of “not being strong enough”. No one stupidly blabbed, either, or was even overheard by one of Glory’s spying minions. It was perfect. Glory needed the information for our story to move forward, and Tara couldn’t help herself. And then, what a maddening cliffhanger!

Just a few Angel comments. I really enjoyed “Disharmony”. Harmony is such a TWINK! And speaking of cliffhangers, the ending of “Belonging” was intense. Cordelia has been teleported to a strange planet with two suns. Looks too green to be Tatooine. Whatever will she DO?!!Marebabenoreply@blogger.com
