I’ve been thinking more about that ...Saturday, now. I’ve been thinking more about that final scene with Hodor holding the door until the bitter end. The bitter end of what? Of his life. We didn’t actually see him breathe his last, but he couldn’t have held out for more than a couple minutes, at the rate the wights were breaking through and clawing at him. And it occurred to me that he wasn’t “saving” Bran and Meera. He was giving them a head start. As soon as Hodor was dead, the wights would burst through and be hot after Bran and Meera. And Meera couldn’t exactly sprint while dragging the sledge with Bran, AND she was leaving tracks in the snow that a blind man could follow. They’re not out of danger yet! (Where’s Drogon? It seems that only a fiery dragon can save them now.)Marebabenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-82100671611957484922016-05-25T17:11:20.441-04:002016-05-25T17:11:20.441-04:00One horrible thought. Will we see Hodor again, as ...One horrible thought. Will we see Hodor again, as a really large member of the wight army? I spent about 2.5 seconds thinking, “They wouldn’t be so cruel and heartless to fans, would they?” I immediately knew the answer: “They would do that, and worse, and then send out for pizza.” I have a growing sense of dread about this.

One horrible thought begets another. It was in the small hours of Monday that I first imagined the really large wight. (Brrr! Gives me chills just to think about it!) But on Tuesday afternoon, along came an even worse notion. (You must prepare yourself.) WHAT IF, in a battle to come, dead Hodor kills Meera and/or Bran? Remember in episode 5.08 “Hardhome”, we met the extremely cool and badass Wildling chieftain named Karsi, who bundled her kids into a boat and promised that she was right behind them. Then in the battle with the white walkers and the wights, she was so stunned by the sight of the zombie children that she couldn’t move. And as she stood there, they rushed in, overwhelmed her, and killed her. The speculation then was that she had known the children when they were alive; maybe one or more of them were her own children, or ones from her tribe that she had known and loved. Now imagine if Bran or Meera were to encounter Zombie Hodor. Let me just remind you that this show is brought to you by heartless brutes who would show a pregnant woman being stabbed repeatedly in her belly, and an innocent teenage girl being sacrificed BY HER PARENTS by burning at the stake. (Shall I go on?) Nothing is off limits on this show, and I fear for Bran and Meera. (When we get to the inevitable Big Battle with the wight army, I’m-a keep a sharp eye out for Zombie Karsi.)

I have read many recaps, reviews, cast interviews, and other articles on the most recent episode of GoT, as I do every week. (Entertainment Weekly, TVLine, Making Game of Thrones Blog, TV Fanatic, Buddy TV, Independent, New York Times, and Rolling Stone.) And I’ve listened to the podcast on EW, and watched this week’s After the Thrones on HBO. No one has mentioned this possibility! All I can figure is that everyone is still so overcome by shock and grief that they can hardly bear to think of what else may be in store just a short ways down the road. And that means it will catch them off guard, and the shock will be even greater. (OR, people like James Hibberd and Darren Franich at EW are in the know, but they’re keeping quiet about it because they’re sworn to secrecy. That makes sense.)
Marebabenoreply@blogger.com
