When I read Page48’s comment about the demolition of Giles’ library, I was thinking of “library” as one’s collection of books. But it can also mean the building or room in which the books are kept, and in this case it was just the building and all the non-slayage books that went Kablooey! I’m all better now. :)Marebabenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-25716600419386974742011-05-18T12:55:08.212-04:002011-05-18T12:55:08.212-04:00Faith/Buffy forehead kiss in 'Enemies' is ...Faith/Buffy forehead kiss in 'Enemies' is returned by Buffy not because she felt she had to but because something inside her finally felt Faith's pain and understood that they should have tried harder to connect because they are the Chosen two.

I also meant to say Buffy excepted her own isolation in that moment.Missyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11352179063117525571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-22809628431887890412011-05-18T12:50:19.788-04:002011-05-18T12:50:19.788-04:00Oh,How I adore 'Graduation Day' P1&2.

Joyce trusting Buffy enough to leave was HUGE, and I somehow failed to appreciate the hugeness right in that moment, when I watched it for the first time. If I recall correctly, the Columbine guys used not just guns, but also pipe bombs. Certainly not identical, and I wouldn't say I agree with the decision to delay it, but I can at least see how it might have struck a nerve for some people.

I particularly liked this observation by Jennifer Stuller: "What if Buffy killed a human? What if Faith had a supportive and loving family?

Buffy was lucky that Faith survived, so she didn't have to deal with the fallout of having deliberately killed a human. I interpret the kiss in the hospital as partly meaning "thanks for surviving."

There are a million great scenes and lines in these two episodes. I especially love the moment where Joyce trusts Buffy enough to get out of town -- a brilliant inversion of their confrontation in the previous finale that precipitated Buffy's running away.Tom D.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-74632967677292951672011-05-18T02:55:04.785-04:002011-05-18T02:55:04.785-04:00You know, I rarely see "Graduation" (bot...You know, I rarely see "Graduation" (both parts) in lists of best/favourite Buffy episodes, and I simply don't get it! I LOVE them! They're a grand finale to a grand season! I mean, it's the Battle of Hogwarts, how can anyone NOT love these episodes?!
I think what I love is that all the students, despite any differences and dislike they might have had during all their high-school years, they were united and acted together. I think this is one of the greatest messages BtVS has ever sent (although I find it very unrealistic and too optimistic when it comes to the real world).

I quite liked Larry... :(

You have to admire Snyder for his calmness; he keeps his cool when the Mayor has turned into a huge snake and the students have turned into warriors. I know there was no point for his character since high-school is over so I understand why they had him killed (and I appreciate the how they had him killed), but I'll sure miss him.

I'm just so, SO sad Season 3 is over...Efthymianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-63234848124805548702011-05-17T23:47:04.489-04:002011-05-17T23:47:04.489-04:00Marebabe said:

That never went anywhere and seemed like a pointless scene.

I think it is because the Mayor wants Faith to be a girly girl (innocent, free, happy) for once, not a killer/slayer. he want her to have a normal life outside of all this drakness. Here the contrast between her normally dark clothes (self) is emphasized with the much lighter chlothes ( alot like when Buffy started whearing dark clothes when she was influenced by Faith's darker nature, but then reverted back to light clothes (her true self, a part of Buffy will always be the bubly, superficial blonde California girl) when she regains control.

In this scene, Faith (having gone from dark to light) could symbolize her need to be like Buffy, I believe that she has always been jealous of Buffy and wants to be more like her, She is uncormfterble in those clothes because she is not like Buffy (family, friends, watcher, school...) and she realises that she most likely never will be. As a viewer I think see her uncomfterbleness as even if she hides behind those clothes (a different personality) she will always be Faith, and she doesn't belong.

Dusk said:

So showing a violent fight and stabbing was okay, but using religious symbols and mostly medivial weapons againist a mythological evil was not aired? Sems strange to me, anyone else?

I believe that episode was pulled because of the Colombine shooting, and people where questioning the role of punkism, gothicism, "dark arts" in the shooting. They even interviewd Marilyn Manson on how his style, his beliefs, his messages (in his songs adn videoclips) could have influenced those students. Also I think its more the fact that the students where armed (crossbows, flamethrowers) and rallied together against authority figures (Mayor, Principle) In a similar way the episode "Earshot" was also pulled because it featured a gun.

Also keep in mind that the people responsible of airing the episode don't necessarily see the episode, they hear gun and they freak, while we know that in "Earshot" no gun was fired.Annenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30892649.post-66325643975825206312011-05-17T23:05:10.668-04:002011-05-17T23:05:10.668-04:00"I’ve always loved the eroticism of the slow-..."I’ve always loved the eroticism of the slow-mo scene of Angel and Buffy falling to the floor as he drains her."

Oh man. I could just imagine the suspense for fans, having been through it enough times myself (3 YEARS between “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”), so watching these two Buffy episodes back-to-back seemed like the right thing to do. I’m so glad I had the option!

Seeing Faith wearing the pink dress and seeming very uncomfortable about it really reminded me of LOST, when Ben made captive Kate wear that cute little sundress. But what was the point of the Mayor giving Faith the pink dress and insisting she try it on? That never went anywhere and seemed like a pointless scene.

“Graduation Day, part 1” was full of awesome, BIG moments. But I just wanted to enjoy watching the episode. I wasn’t in the mood to be constantly pausing the DVD to take notes. So I didn’t.

“Graduation Day, part 2”, on the other hand, sort of demanded that I scribble down some notes. First of all, the scene where Angel drank Buffy’s blood was as intense as anything ever shown on network TV, and I’m including LOST in that statement. I loved how the music came up dramatically, the cinematography, everything! Powerful stuff.

I liked the intercutting of scenes, from Buffy’s team’s planning sessions, to the Mayor’s team, and back again. Nice work by the editing department.

Principal Snyder’s opening remarks at graduation were just the BEST! But then I had a few quibbles with the way the final battle progressed, and I had to hush up my brain, so I could just enjoy it. For one thing, I am positive that no one would EVER schedule any sort of event, including a high school graduation, to take place during a total solar eclipse. Eclipses are always a big deal, always well advertised, as it were, and everyone’s calendars would be completely cleared for this grand, celestial show. The next thing that bugged me (a little) was the question of exactly when all the graduating seniors had time to do their weapons training. They were all A) handling their weapons pretty expertly, and B) working together as a unit. A and B do not “just happen”. It takes some serious practice.

Well, high school is over, and they very neatly (or, y’know, messily) got rid of the school AND Principal Snyder. Good work! And Wesley and Cordy’s kiss was the utmost awkward, wasn’t it? I’ll admit, that was not at all what I was expecting from those two.

I predicted (hoped) that the Mutant Enemy monster would be wearing a graduation cap, and I was so tickled when he was! I like him a lot.
