Blogging for Luddites
Hey all, just a quick note that I'm currently at my dad's house, and will be posting from there tomorrow night. Why do you need to know this about me? Because he's on dial-up. Yep, good old fashioned dial-up. He wanted to show me this youtube video of Tom Waits this morning, and it took 45 minutes to load up a 3-minute clip. God help us. (He wants high speed, but he's in podunk nowhere, Southwestern Ontario, and there's some tree blocking the path for high-speed, or so he's been told by the internet companies, so he has to suffer this insanity.) Anyway, I have no idea how Blogger will do under those circumstances, but here's hoping I can manage my post. (I'm on a high-speed connection right now, but won't be able to be on it tomorrow night.)
In the meantime, check out the awesome Mr. Tom Waits.
Clip is awesome!! The fact that he's only touring the southern US is not. It's been 9 years since Waits has been in Toronto. Time to come back!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaving parents who love just west of podunk nowhere, I feel your pain. When I go there I just go offline. The painful experience of dial is just too painful. Call someone and dictate instead.
ReplyDeleteJeremy: Totally. I always go offline when I'm here, but I'm never here on a Lost night. D'oh. Dictating 2000 words would actually make dialup seem fast, so I'm going to brace myself. (But since this comments page just took 5 minutes to load up, I'm getting scared.)
ReplyDeleteI think that the phone beeping you are referring to was the Morse Code message sent by the beach camp. One of the helicoper people tells the Doc something to the effect of "I just received a message and you want to know something funny. They said you were dead." Or something like that. I think the writers were just trying to show us more of the time delay.
