Lost Haiku Time! "Sundown"

"Sundown, you'd better
Take care, if I find you've been..."
In my head all week.

"Catch a Falling Star"
Once a soothing lullaby,
Now stuff of nightmares.

"It puts the lotion
In the basket. It rubs the
lotion on its skin."
(that's for the many commenters who used that line in the comments!!)

"Do not worry, Claire.
I took him. And raised him. And...
He calls me Mommy."

"Oh, you did? Awesome.
Really, I'm happy for you.
Now DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!"

"Sayid, there's still time!
Oh... oh good cripes. Um... backing
away slowly now."

Sayid's a hottie.
Redeem can't wait for him to
come to Toronto.

Keamy's like a goon
working at Satriale's.
Fuhgeddaboudit.

Jin's tied up in fridge.
"What happened to you?!" "No English.
Wait... except for... BOAT."

And... I'm Off!

Hello everyone! I'm heading out to the UK first thing tomorrow (Monday) morning. My hotel in downtown London says it has high-speed Internet, but that's what my hotel in Mexico said last week, so I figured I'd post this before I left to give you a heads up. I'm going to try to watch this week's episode from afar on Wednesday morning and see if I can post something really quick then (so it would go live probably around 3 or 4 a.m. EST and would be there when you wake up in the morning). I hope everyone is OK to wait until Wednesday morning, but just in case you're itching to discuss it sooner, I'll put up a holder post so you can start your chatting and then my post will go live. I was going to choose a couple of people to handle the post for me, but honestly, all of you are such great commenters I simply couldn't choose a couple. I'd have to choose 30 or 40 of you. And that could create a big of a blogjam.

I'm skipping out of the Globe and Mail chat, much to my sadness, simply because I'm meeting up with a friend in London (actually, he'll be my partner in presenting the paper at Slayage, and we're trying to write the thing while I'm over there) and it would be really tough to duck out at dinnertime over there to chat online for an hour. Instead I'll spend that hour relentlessly insisting to him that he NEEDS TO WATCH LOST. (He doesn't watch the show. He's a professor of English literature and popular culture. What is WRONG with him?! Feel free to post in the comments below your number one reason why he should be watching... I'll happily forward this on to him.)

Anyway, the fact that I don't get to chat with y'all in real time after a BEN episode is like not being able to chat after a freakin' finale. I'm so upset and wish it had been a Sun episode or something (not that there's anything wrong with Sun, but you know what I mean). And if you DON'T hear from me on Wednesday morning, it simply means that yet another hotel has let me down, and I'll be back online Thursday night.

Have a great week everyone!!

Desmond Finds Lost!

Just as I was about to post something saying, "Oh when will someone take the screencap of Desmond reading on the plane next to Jack and have my beloved reading one of my books?" Sagacious Penguin came along and did one better. This one is a riot!!

Daniel Finds Lost

This one is so perfect. I LOVE the look on Daniel's face as he's reading this. And notice the time travel once again, since he's reading the upcoming season 6 book!! "So THAT'S how it's gonna end!" he's saying... Thanks to Sam Wade for this one!

Smokey Finds Lost

As Eko stumbled through the jungle, trying to escape the ghost of his dead brother telling him to repent, he got one last chance: Smokey jumped out from the trees, faced him head on, and told him... he needed to read all of my Finding Lost books. The books flashed before Eko's unblinking eyes, but Eko stared straight into the eye of the beast and shook his head no.

And so (understandably from my point of view), Smokey picked him up and thrashed him against several trees, knocking the life out of him.

Moral of the story: Read my books. Or else.

Thanks to Scott Clarke for this one!! You guys are AWESOME!

Some Fun the Day after Lost

So a few people have already sent in their photoshopped photos of my books appearing in scenes in the episodes. And here is FINALLY proof that my books are actually affecting the events on the island! (Thanks to hauguy for this one!)

And this one was awesome... if Juliet was REALLY paying attention, wouldn't she have figured out that Ben was not to be trusted? Now THIS is a great book club book, guys!!

LOL! Love it. That one is from TM Lawrence. Honestly, maybe it's a good thing I don't know anything about Photoshop, because I swear I'd never get anything else done. I'd just sit around all day doing things like this. Or photoshopping funny hats onto pictures of my kids. (By the way, you can click on those pics to get larger versions.) Please keep sending them! I loved getting these.

Just a few updates: My DocArzt piece is here. I also participated in the National Post's Ampersand blog again, and that's up here. And finally the transcript of the Globe chat is here.

And finally, Paticus sent this to me and it made me laugh out loud. Perfect antidote to last night's episode! I guess the one good thing about Sayid moving to the Dark Side is we'll never have to watch him do stand-up! Thanks, Paticus.

Lost 6.06 "Sundown"

First, thanks to humanebean for sending me the above picture that he screen-capped from last week... I always knew I was a candidate! And my name hasn't been crossed out yet!! Is this a good or a bad thing? Does this give me access to more than one universe?

Welcome to the earliest Lost post ever, thanks to CTV running Lost at 7pm tonight (woohoo!). I've post-dated this to go live at 10:05 so it doesn't go up too soon and everyone will have seen it on the East Coast already.

“You said that there was still good in your soul. Then prove it.”
I was totally expecting this week’s episode to be about Sun, with that title (and it would have been consistent with the sixth episode of season 1). And I also have that Gordon Lightfoot song in my head now…

Poor Sayid. No matter which reality he’s in, he’ll always be the remorseful man trying to be different, but somehow always getting sucked right back into the violence. Most of his story throughout the series has been him trying to escape his past as a torturer and embrace the lover side of himself, but instead he’s always drawn back in, whether it’s to torture Sawyer or to become Ben’s hitman. Now, just as he’s denying himself the one thing that would make him happy, he becomes his brother’s avenger… and by the way, taking care of his brother ALSO seems to be something he’ll be stuck doing in every reality.

I loved this episode. Loved loved loved it. And where the other sideways reality worlds all seemed to have a pat happy ending, this one is the first to end in a cliffhanger and tie Sayid's story to Jin's. While I had some trouble actually listing any answers that were given, I do feel like we actually DID have things illuminated for us. Sayid's completely gone over to the Dark Side, we know Jacob brought Dogen to the island and seems to have imprisoned him there, Dogen and Lennon are gone, the Temple's been destroyed, and Unlocke has an army of followers. Ilana and her group have caught up to everyone, and now the action will REALLY begin.

Highlights:
• Uncle Sayid?! Whoa.
• Was it just me or was Sayid particularly hot in this episode?
• The Sayid/Dogen ninja fight. That was AWESOME.
• Miles saying Jungle Hair Claire™ (thanks for that one, humanebean!) was acting all weird, but “still hot, though.” HAHAHAHA!!
• Sayid not even hesitating before driving the knife into Unlocke’s chest. You know, the fact that Smokey looks exactly like John Locke probably helped Sayid’s resolve, since he detested John.
• KEAMY!! ACK!
• Sideways world Jin!!
• I’m happy that Ilana’s team is finally joined back with Miles.
• Sayid, Kate, and Jungle Hair Claire™ walking through the bodies with that creepy “Catch a Falling Star” song playing in the background is one of the most amazing, bone-chilling uses of music EVER on this show. Was it Emilie de Ravin singing or was it another artist?

Answers:
• Sayid to Dogen: “I want some answers.” Dogen to Sayid: “Dude, get in LINE.”
• If Dogen is to be believed, the Man in Black is free because Jacob died, and he is evil incarnate.
• Dogen was brought to the island by Jacob, who was preying on his vulnerability and mourning. He wants to be there as much as Juliet wanted to be there.
• Yes, I know I’m reaching for answers here. Sigh.

Did You Notice?:
• The cab driver’s voice sounded familiar, but they never showed him. Maybe he just has one of those voices.
• So is this the brother who, in the other reality, refused to kill the (ultimately) deflated ghost chicken?
• Dogen talks about the scale of good and evil (which makes us think of Unlocke when he went to the cave and found the scale with the white stone and black stone) and it reminded me of Anubis once again, with his scales of judgment as he leads people to the land of the dead, weighing their hearts to see if they were good or evil.
• Sayid tells Dogen that he thinks he knows him but he doesn’t, and there’s a look on Dogen’s face as if he’s thinking, “No, I actually DO know you better than you think… but you don’t know yourself.”
• Miles is convinced that Sayid was dead… back in “LA X” we commented that Miles was staring at his body funny, and that maybe he was never dead, but now I’m thinking Miles was staring at it funny just as it was coming back to life, as if he could sense it was no longer a dead body.
• Poor Sayid, “You want me to go, you want me to stay, you want me to go… sheesh, Dogen, you change your mind more times than Kate.”
• With Dogen handing Sayid the knife, Sayid becomes the hero on a quest to kill the baddie.
• Sayid’s going to Toronto?! Well, right THERE is proof that he’s evil incarnate!! (And that would explain redeem147 emailing me partway through the episode saying, “I hope I’m living in Sayid’s sideways world!” LOL!)
• I love how Jack just wanders past Sayid, and at first I thought there was no recognition, but he does look at him with a little more than a passing glance.
• Dogen told Sayid not to let Smokey talk at all, and later Sayid says he didn’t, but Unlocke actually says, “Hello Sayid” before Sayid plunges the knife into him, so technically it’s too late.
• Unlocke asking Sayid, “What if I told you that you could have anything you want?” sounds a LOT like Ben asking Locke what he would do if Ben would tell him there’s a box on the island that could contain anything Locke ever wanted inside. Is that a suggestion that Unlocke is just manipulating him? He reminded me of the snake in the Garden of Eden.
• Do you notice how Lennon and Dogen refer to everyone by their last names? They referred to Shephard, Reyes, Ford, and Kwon… the same way they’re logged on the cave ceiling and in the lighthouse. Ilana does the same thing when she shows up, and only refers to everyone (including "Linus") by their surnames.
• Jungle Hair Claire™ is singing “Catch a Falling Star,” the song that her father sang to her, and the one Kate would sing to Aaron.
• Lennon gives Kate two minutes… that’s one less than the Others gave Walt and Michael.
• When Kate says, “I raised him,” it makes us think of “Raised by Another,” where Jungle Hair Claire™ had been told no one else can raise him. Is that what runs through her mind as she glares at Kate?
• When the van pulls up to Nadia’s house, the goon who steps out is Omar, one of Keamy’s men from the island. He’s one of the ones killed in the big ambush by the helicopter at the end of S4.
• Did anyone else think Keamy’s men were walking Sayid into Satriale’s?!
• Poor Keamy… in the original timeline, he was a Navy Seal and a killing machine mercenary. In this one, he’s just a small-time gangster modeling himself after other gangster movies and wearing a flashy pimp suit.
• Keamy frying the egg reminded me of Locke frying the egg for Ben’s breakfast.
• Sayid always shoots people in the chest (didn’t work so well on little Ben Linus). It’s like he wants to shoot them in the place where he feels the most pain.
• In the sideways world Dogen’s son is close to him and is a pianist, and Dogen is very involved in his life. In this one Dogen is mourning him and blaming himself for his son’s death.
• I don’t want to be rude here, but when Smokey first comes into the camp, shooting straight out and then retreating with the guy, it looked particularly… phallic.
• Notice Ben says, “There’s still time.” And Sayid says, “Not for me.” The use of the word “time” here is significant.
• Unlocke standing there with his “followers” was reminiscent of the beginning of season 4, when Locke and Jack split forces and the people formed two camps. Interestingly, Claire was with Locke back then, too, but Kate and Sayid were with Jack.

The Numbers:
Dogen’s son was 12 when he died (8 + 4).

So Many Questions...
• Dogen stops short of killing Sayid when he sees the baseball hit the ground. We find out that he’s on the island because of his son, who was a baseball player. Is that why he stops? Or has he been told by Jacob that if he kills anyone on the island, his son dies? What sort of chains is he in on the island? (In my original notes, I jotted, “If the baseball falls, will the Red Sox never have won the Series?”)
• Where’s Jin? I’m a little annoyed that two episodes ago Sawyer and the Man in Black were joined at the hip and then Sawyer just disappeared, and now Jin is just gone. Where is he?
• Why does Dogen immediately want Shephard and Reyes in his room?
• Why did Keamy’s men capture Jin? Where is Sun? Did she somehow ditch Jin at the airport?
• A couple of weeks ago we all talked about how it’s possible Jacob has taken over Sayid’s body. After Dogen’s anti-Jacob story, could that be why Sayid goes apeshit on him?
• If Dogen drowned in the water the same way Sayid was, does that mean he could come back to life, too?
• Where did Ilana and Co. come from?
• When the smoke thundered past Kate’s head, did you see anything in it? She was staring at it with her mouth agape, and I slowed it right down and watched it frame by frame, but I haven’t watched the HD feed yet so I didn’t see anything in it. I swear something looked like a Dementor at the very end of Smokey’s tail as they went past.
• When Sayid says, “Not for me,” Ben stares at him as if he sees something else in his eyes.
• What is the significance of Dogen's dagger? He pulled it out of the ceremonial box like it was a very important knife. How has it been used in the past?
• Ilana pushes on that same omega symbol on the wall that Hurley was staring at last week… clearly it’s associated with Jacob in some way, but why? Where did they go?
• Unlocke gives a strange glare to Kate, and doesn't look at all happy that she's there... is it because you couldn't see her on the cave ceiling (which, despite what he said appears to be Smokey's domain) but she was still an uncrossed-out candidate (#51) in the lighthouse? What about her doesn't he trust?
• What’s Ben going to do? He’s not with Kate and everyone, and he’s not with Ilana and her group anymore because their door closed behind them with him out.

Reminder: Tomorrow listen in to Marshall and Forbes on The Ocean 98.5 in Victoria, BC at 6 a.m. local time, 9 a.m. EST. Go here and click on the Listen Now button if you’re out of the listening area.
And tomorrow at noon I will once again be participating in the Globe and Mail Lost chat from noon to 1pm EST. Go here to ask questions and comment. See you there!

While You Wait for Lost...

(Just a quick reminder first to go and click on Chris Temple's bid for a grant to open an arthouse coffee place that would give free art lessons to kids!)

First things first... something I really should have mentioned all last week, and Sunday, and especially yesterday morning: GO TEAM CANADA!!! Woohoo!! I hope you were watching as our evil Canadians played against the genteel Americans and Sidney Crosby KICKED ASS. That was a wicked nailbiter of a game... what a proud, proud day for Canucks everywhere! I was so happy. I actually really loved the Olympics (I usually love the Winter Olympics... crazy fact: I gave birth during the 2004 Summer Olympics; as I was in labour I was watching the men's high dive) and there were so many great stories of hope and tragedy and sadness and happiness... it was like a story being unfurled on my TV, with athletic prowess being thrown in the mix for good measure. I'm going to miss them.

It's Lost Day, kids! And I've been posting some goodies all day, but now I wanted to throw out an idea to everyone and see what sort of Photoshoppers I have in my reading audience. I've made several jokes on here that my dream on Lost is for Jack to walk past a bookshelf and my entire series of Finding Lost books would be on it. Surreal and metatelevisual all in one! But since that will never happen, I want to see if you help me pretend it happened. Since my Photoshop skills could be fit on the head of a pin, could anyone out there try their hand at inserting my books into scenes? Maybe Sawyer could be reading one on the beach. Or Ben could be holding one in his hand (who better to be giving Ben his secrets than this evil Canadian?!) Or they could be lining bookshelves. Or Kate could be ready to throw one at Sawyer's head. Or a polar bear could be catching up on his reading. Or John Locke could be playing backgammon on one. The possibilities are endless! Just not for someone like me. Here's an example of me attempting it.

Pretty mad skills, eh? You should have seen the one where Ben was carrying it through the camp. He looked like he was taking a novelty cheque to a big lotto winner. Send me what you come up with and I'll post them here with credits to you, and ultimately I'll pick one to adorn the top of my site (if I can figure out how to do that... and if I can't, I'm sure someone out there could help me). Technical genius here, folks... look out.

I also wanted to tell you to tune in to this blog immediately after Lost ends... I'm hoping to have my blog up at exactly 10pm. How will she do that, you might ask? How WILL I do that, I respond, Miles-like (seriously, do you know how many times I use that line these days to avoid questions?) OK, fine, I'll tell you: I'm time traveling, too!

And now, without any further ado, this week's installment of haiku, brought to you by last week's episode, "Lighthouse"!

I discovered that
Lost is tough to watch in a
Mexican resort.

Skeleton baby:
Creepiest thing of all time.
Claire's in Crazytown.

And now, the angry deleted scene... in haiku:

Hurley:
"I can see you. I
thought I was special, but you
Just wanted Jack." Sniff.

"I'm in a red shirt
Walking through the damn jungle
Dude, what about me?!"

Jacob:
"Now calm down, Hurley.
Last guy who said that, added,
'Just die in a fire.'"

Jack:
"I'm sick of questions!
Now you bring me up here, and
Offer answers?" SMASH!!!

Jacob:
"You guys have waited
And now I'm here and you are
Angry? WTF?"

Finding Barry!

Imagine my happiness when Barry, the guy who designed my season 5 Finding Lost cover and now the upcoming season 6 cover (and made it possible for me to watch last week's episode!), emailed me to say he took a picture of himself with my books. Imagine my delight when I opened the attachment to discover... that Barry had time traveled to the future in the true spirit of Lost, took a picture of himself HOLDING my as-yet-to-be-startedwritten Season 6 book, and then time traveled back to the present to send me this photo from the future!! Wow... can anyone beat THAT? ;) (Can I just say again how much I love my new cover?) Presenting, the lovely, talented, Barry!! (Complete with Dharma jumpsuits, lol!)

Lost? Or Just... Late?

Jimmy Fallon has been doing a spoof of Lost on his show called "Late," where a bunch of people are trapped in the NBC building and are late for work. He takes on the role of Jack and there are other character similar to the ones on Lost. (Thanks to Danielle for the heads up!) It's actually really funny! Here are the two installments that have run so far:

Finding Ambivalentman!

I haven't gotten a new Finding Lost reader pic in ages, and then I got two yesterday! I'm going to post this one first and then the next one later in the day. This is Ambivalentman, a.k.a. Jeremiah, whose blog is here (and I hope you visit it because it's great!). I'll always remember him as the guy who came onto the DocArzt site when I'd written a speculatory post and a few people attacked me in the comments, and he gave them the what-for. He was firmly entrenched in my heart at that moment. :) He took this pic at his Lost premiere party (:::tears that I can never have parties because I have to blog!:::) and check out the inflatable palm tree!! HAHAHA! Love it. What a great picture. Happy Lost Day, everyone!!

Let's Help Local Artists!

Hello everyone! This doesn't have much to do with Lost, but it's a plea from one of my readers, and it's for a great cause, so I'm really hoping some of you will help out with this. This comes from Chris Temple, who is one of my regular commenters on Lost and has been a part of this site for a few years now. I'll let him explain the cause to you:

I am trying to start an art gallery coffee house in Sacramento, CA for local artists called LOCAL CREATIONS. I will also provide free art lessons to children, have art supply drives for local schools, and donate a portion of the profits to local charities. To help get the funding I need to open my gallery I entered Pepsi's Refresh Project which is giving away grants to people with ideas that will benefit the community. The winners are the ideas that get the most votes at the end of the month (they are doing this every month and giving away millions in grants). I was wondering if you could mention my idea and post the link to my idea on your blog? I would greatly appreciate it. I know you have alot of loyal readers (me included) and I need to spread the word to help my idea win. Voting begins on March 1st and I need as many people to vote as I can get and for them to vote daily.

The link just went live at midnight last night. You can go here to click and vote, and please vote every day until March 31! Let's help get kids some free art lessons. I know many of you have blogs of your own, so please go ahead and either link here or lift this post directly and post it on your site if you'd like to help promote the cause. Thanks for contacting me, Chris, and good luck!

"Lighthouse": Parti Deux

What, you somehow missed part 2 of the episode? It aired tonight... OK, kidding. I just got home from Mexico and I rewatched it on high def and caught a LOT of things I didn't see the first time around. Some things have been mentioned in the comments, others weren't, so I'll run down some new things I saw. (Oh, and I forgot to mention this earlier, but I managed to get a DocArzt post up while I was away. You can read it here.)

First, let's just take a closer look at this.

All together now!
They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky
They're all together ooky, the Littleton Family
Their house is a museum, where people come to see em
They really are a scre-um, the Littleton Family!
Dadadadum! Neat!
Dadadadum! Sweet!
Dadadadum, dadadadum, dadadadum! Petite!

Good cripes, that's the stuff of nightmares, people. I'm kind of thankful that my screen was as pixelated as it was last Tuesday night... Ack. As to what kind of animal it was, my initial instinct was that it was a baby polar bear (and Claire caught it in one of her bear traps) but someone else suggested it was a wild boar and she's hacked the tusks off, and that's a definite possibility, as well. As for those who have said it was Vincent (gah!) I don't think that looks like a dog's skull to me.

Anyway, here are a couple of other things that jumped out at me:

• Jack tells his mom the coffin was last checked through Berlin. I wonder if there's any significance to Christian's coffin being spotted (or not) in Germany?
• David goes to St. Mary's school. St. Mary is how Christians refer to Mary, the mother of Christ.
• Jin's leg: GACK. I definitely didn't see what that looked like. Blech.
• The explosives in Claire's tent looked new. They didn't look like the gunky ones from the Black Rock that Rousseau had been using.
• As someone mentioned in the comments on my original post, it would appear that Claire didn't time jump, and instead seemed to be part of the island. Otherwise, how would all of her stuff had stayed with her when they jumped back?
• I mentioned during the Globe chat that the reason they had to remind us of Adam and Eve was for the millions of viewers who don't obsess over every little detail, who haven't thought of Adam and Eve for 5 years, and who will need a quick reminder for when they have the big reveal later in the season. And then tonight, as Hurley said, "Dude, I'd forgotten about them" my husband says to me, "Who the hell are they?" I laughed out loud and wrote down, "MY HUSBAND IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE." Heehee...
• Jack tells Hurley about Christian dying and losing the coffin... is the AU affecting the people on the island, because suddenly people are opening up to each other in a way they NEVER did before.
• People pointed out that in the AU Jack was on the straight and narrow and not drinking anything, but that's not completely true; he comes home with a pizza for him and David and a 6-pack of tall beer cans... and I'm presuming the latter wasn't for David.
• I mentioned that the key is under the stone rabbit, but it's actually a white rabbit... again, a more direct reference to episode 1.05 (that and the Alice reference clinched it).
• There's a Meat Coat poster on David's wall; in the episode where Drive Shaft is in the "Butties" commercial, that's the band the director says he really wanted in the commercial instead.
• Does David not pick up his messages? His answering machine was flashing, and the second message was Jack telling him that something had happened and he wanted to hear his voice. If he'd picked up the message, it wouldn't have still been flashing. Has David not heard it yet?
• Jack's comment that he was broken and he thought the island could fix him was a really poignant line, I thought. This is a guy who always tries to fix everything, and now he's putting himself in the hands of something else to fix him... and it didn't work.
• Claire's "branding" looks a lot like the scar that the hot poker made on Sayid... did Dogen burn her in the same way to see if she was infected?
• David is at the "Williams" conservatory. I don't know if there's any significance to that name, but I wonder if it'll become significant the way "Widmore" did after we saw it written on everything.
• I totally didn't see the Temple where Jin and Sun were married and the church where little Sawyer buried his parents on the Lighthouse mirrors until now. Presumably the dial was moving past their numbers, but Jin and Sun are 42 and Ford is 15, so it would have had to pass through 23 and 16 first. Why did they flash at the higher numbers? Interesting that both of those places are where Jacob touched them. Does this mean he actually touched Jack earlier, when Jack was a boy at that house?
• I thought it was significant that it's a telescope that Jack uses to destroy the mirrors. It's like he used something used for seeing things far away that he uses to ruin something he saw close up.
• Many people emailed me to tell me what happened in the final 2 minutes of the episode (and thank you!) but what I found most significant was that Jin moved into a manipulation mode in a big way. That's huge for him, I thought (I mentioned this in the comments, but I don't know how many people are still reading those). Have we ever seen him manipulate anyone like that? Even when he worked for Paik he was just following orders and never used it back.
• How did Jin know there was a secret way back into the Temple?
• On the dial I saw Faraday, Linus, and Austen (Austen wasn't crossed out). Also Lewis, and Wallace was #108 as many had pointed out. Last week we saw Mattingly, this week I saw Rodriguez. Did Jacob have a thing for the Yankees? I also saw "Stanhope" on there. Harper Stanhope was Goodwin's wife, the psychiatrist who threatened Juliet.

And those are the extra things I noticed on a second watch! Wow, I wish this is one I'd seen in high def the first time around, but I'm really grateful I was able to watch it at all! :)

Haiku Catch-Up: "What Kate Does"

I posted haikus for "LA X" and "The Substitute" but I didn't have one up for "What Kate Does," and then Batcabbage posted some particularly hilarious ones for that episode. So I realized I really should open up the floor and if anyone has any good Claire/Kate/Arzt ones to add here, add away! First, the night of "What Kate Does" some other people posted haikus on that ep while it was still airing, so I took them down just in case they might be deemed spoilery by anyone else, so here are those ones:

AliBags:
Disappointed with
this episode. What was wrong?
No Richard Alpert.

JS:
All through six-oh-three
I bet you all were thinking
WHERE IS Man in Locke???

Sonshine Music:
Add Ethan Goodspeed
To my growing creepy list
Of palatable ;)

(Me: HAHAHA!)

In lieu of writing my own on this ep, I'm just going to re-post Batcabbage's instead because there's no WAY I could match them. :)

Hey, I’m walking here!
Don’t run me over , strangely

Lost 6.05 "Lighthouse"

Well, after much ado, I’ve finally seen the episode (well, almost.... it cut out about 2 minutes before the end... if anyone could email me off the list and tell me what happens after Jacob tells Hurley that it’s too late to save the people at the Temple, that would be awesome). But it’s really late now, so let me just make this a quick one, since I’m sure many of you have already posted some great stuff on it.

I do have to ask, though... are there any Japanese readers out there who could help me out with the translation of what Dogen says that’s not subtitled?

Highlights:
• Hurley facing off against Dogen: “I’m a big fan of temples... and history. Indiana Jones stuff.”
• “I just lied to a Samurai.” LOL!
• Hurley saying that Jacob just turns up whenever he wants, like Obi Wan Kenobi.
• Dude from Degrassi isn’t dead!! Oh... wait. Never mind.
• Adam and Eve!!!!!!!! I literally stopped breathing for a second when they came on the screen. I thought this... is... it... and then it wasn’t. I loved Hurley asking if the skeletons are them. Which probably means they’re not.
• I’m using my husband’s laptop and I just noticed he has this screen set at 108% zoom. WHOA.
• Hurley recalling season 1: “You and me... trekking through the jungle searching for something we don’t understand. Good times.”
• “Doesn’t say anything on your arm about the door being jammed?” HAHA!
• “Mission unaccomplished!”

Did You Notice?
• Jack suddenly seems interested in that appendix, like he’s had another flash of the other reality where it came out more recently.
• His son’s name is David, like King David in the Bible, who wrote the Psalms.
• Miles and Hurley have gone from Risk to Tic Tac Toe. Hahaha!
• David loves the Red Sox as much as his grandpa didn’t believe in them. Maybe he does it just to piss off Dad.
• The Annotated Alice: Jack says he read it to David, and we saw him reading it to Aaron when he was living with Kate.
• Claire isn’t just kinda crazy... she’s totally batshit bonkers creepy-skeleton-head-baby-lovin’ super crazy.
• Did anyone else hear Bono start singing when Kate told Jack that she hopes he finds what he’s looking for?
• Just like last week’s episode referenced 1.04 (Walkabout), this one references 1.05 (White Rabbit), the episode where Jack found the caves and smashed the coffin.
• Jack found the key under the rabbit, just like Miles reached under a rabbit in “Some Like It Hoth” to get into that apartment with the dead man when he was a kid.
• I noticed the house was #21, and it made me wonder if the numbers are NOT in this reality? Has anyone seen any of the numbers in this one? They seem to be always off by one or two.
• So... maybe that reunion between Claire and Kate WON’T be a happy one?
• David plays Chopin, which is what young Daniel was playing when his mom told him about his destiny.
• The screen I was watching on was heavily pixelated (hence I’m not pointing out a lot of minute details, like those names on the dial that I would LOVE to see) but that kid who asked Jack if David was his son looked a lot like young Daniel... but presumably he wasn’t if Dogen is his father.
• The mirror in the lighthouse is a reference to Alice, once again.
• Hurley says Jack’s going to have 7 years of bad luck, but he smashed 4 mirrors, so that’s more like 28 years.
• Jack wanted David to play piano, and if you recall in New Otherton he was playing piano, too, as if he never got that good and wanted the best for his son.
• Jack rights the wrongs of his son in a way that his father never did with him.
• It’s interesting that in the AU we see a lot of happy endings. Claire will keep Aaron after all, Locke has his happy ending, and now Jack gets his.
• Jacob says that Jack is here because he has to do something, and that he needs to look at the ocean for a while... Locke looked at the ocean for a long time before he sensed his destiny on the island. We also saw the Man in Black staring at the ocean when he returned looking like Locke.

Any Questions?
• Who’s coming to the island?
• Why didn’t Jin speak up earlier when Claire was freaking out about BLT having her baby? He knew Aaron had him, so why not say something right away?
• Who is Claire’s other friend in the jungle?
• What’s Dogen doing in this other reality? If the island went boom in 1977 does that mean he never went there? Or is he the island’s backup system to get people to it? It’s interesting that he says, “It’s hard to watch and be unable to help” like that’s a comment on the show.
• Who do you think is David's mom? Is it Sarah and she just was too busy with Modern Family to appear? Or could it be someone else?

I found these when I was looking for a pic to post with this:

My original post:
So, as some of you know, I'm at a resort in Mexico. We made sure they had satellite TV in the rooms (even called, and they assured us it was) and when we got here, they just had cable in the rooms. So we spent a couple of days asking around, especially since they were broadcasting the Olympics in the games room so they must have cable somewhere. Finally someone told us they had satellite in the main lobby, but just cable in the rooms. So we asked if it was possible to get a TV somewhere in the main building for 8pm on Tuesday night to watch Lost. They didn't seem to understand my urgency ("You WRITE about TV? What do you mean?") and every time we started to get somewhere with one person ("Oh yes, you could use the manager's office for an hour") we'd lose it with the next ("I suggest you bribe the DJ in the games room, but if other people are watching sports you probably won't get anywhere").

So I posted an urgent request, and Barry, the guy who designed my new cover, gave me access to his Slingbox. We tested it out, it worked perfectly. At 8pm (it's an hour earlier here) I was watching my daughter on stage with her new little friends hitting at a pinata they'd made that day, while the program was paused back at the hotel room. I got back there a few minutes later and sat down with pen and paper (my husband had taken the kids somewhere else) and the first five minutes were great... and then the internet conked out. Everything saved was gone, and it went back up for about 3 minutes after that and then went out completely. Repeated calls to the front desk told me that someone was coming up to fix it... and then he wasn't... and then he was... and then he was gone for the night. I went down to the concierge at our building and asked her if she had the internet and she said no (her colleague's computer was there and you could see the ethernet cord running right into it) but that I could go to the business center. So I ran back up to the room, grabbed everything, and ran to the business center, put the computer in, and checked my email. There was one from Barry saying he was going to bed at 11 and he could run the episode again, no problem, if I contacted him before then. It was 2 minutes to 11. ACK! I sent him a quick email and didn't hear back, so he definitely went to bed right on time! :)

I've never worked so hard to watch an episode. Another friend assured me the other day he'd upload it for me, but I've emailed him and haven't heard back and it doesn't seem to have been uploaded, so no matter what I've done, I can't get this episode. So... no post after all. :( And I've emailed the Globe and Mail to say I probably can't do the chat tomorrow since nothing is working for me.

But, I don't want to stop the rest of you from discussing it, so the floor is open. Discuss away! I look forward to coming back on Thursday and actually watching the episode and posting something and then reading everything you guys have to say. Sorry about this... I've tried absolutely everything, but unfortunately at this resort, things work when they want to, and just poop out every other time. I hope the ep was a good one!

While You Wait for Lost...

Tonight I just have one thing for you, and it's something I'm very excited about. After watching the first episode, Barry Johnson (the man who designed my S5 cover that I love so much AND the guy letting me use his slingbox to watch the episode tonight) emailed me with a suggested cover, which was his rendering of the Temple surrounded by hieroglyphs. This was completely unbidden; he'd just gone ahead and done it. I told him I liked it a lot, but my idea for a S6 cover had been a chess board with two kings -- one black, one white -- standing in the middle, either fallen on the board, or maybe just one of them fallen. I was looking for a cover that was predominantly black and white, but maybe had another colour on it. I suggested red.

He emailed back that he liked that idea and could do it, and would incorporate the hieroglyphs from his Temple cover, and he'd created his own Dharma symbol that represented the do-over idea that we're seeing in S6. He thought the kings might be better standing, looking like they're facing off, and he also wanted to try adding the beam of light on there from the hatch (since so much of S6 is reminiscent of S1). He then send me a rendering, and after some back and forth, we have what I think is the cover that was in my head all along, and he somehow pulled it out of there and put it on the page.

So, without any further ado, this will be my season 6 cover for Finding Lost!! I hope you love it as much as I do. :)
