A story on the wire today has said that Lost producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have said they're starting talks with the ABC network to finalize a date for the end of Lost. This would have a huge impact on the show (all good, I would think) because they'd know exactly how many more episodes they need to get to the end. Therefore, they can carefully plot out their puzzle pieces, rather than just writing and writing as if it's not ever ending.
The best part of this article is near the end, where Lindelof states that yes, ratings have dropped slightly, but they're not going to alter their writing style to get them back (think Alias). Yeah! I've put a pic of him with this posting, because he's my friend Crissy's boyfriend. And because he's awesome.
In another report on the same story, they quote Lindelof as saying 90-100 eps would be good, so that would put the end of the series at season 4.

thank you Nikki! I love to look at my boyfriend (long distance relationship...sometimes it's like he doesn't even know i exist).
I think an end date will do wonders for Lost and Lost viewers. Oh Damon, you're so smart. And so dreamy.
That is such a lie about him being her boyfriend! He's married! Silly, silly. I really hope ABC grows some and ends it when Damon and Carlton want.
If i got to choose i would end it at season 4. But, if that wasn't okay, i would have a 10 episode season 5 rap up or maybe just a movie rap up.
Nevermind....my perfect ending would be: 24 episode season 4 and a 2 1/2 movie that was broadcast in theaters and on tv.
If it does end like that they will never have to do a bad season and season 4 will be awesome because they can take all the ideas they had for season 4 and 5 and mix them together and then they wont have to create 36 new idea episodes until the exposition starts! Season 4 would be perfect.
what timing, considering we were just discussing this last week :)
