As You Wish...

This picture makes me SO happy.

Happy 25th anniversary, Princess Bride! It's interesting: many people are saying they're shocked that the movie is that old, where for me, it feels like it's been around forever. I was more like, "You mean there were years of my life where Princess Bride DIDN'T exist??"

I know just what you mean, Nikki, but seriously. It has to be said... "25 years? INCONCEIVABLE!"

I love The Princess Bride. Might just have to watch it this weekend to celebrate this quarter-century milestone :)

I stumbled upon it on TV once when I was very young, but the only things I remembered were liking it, that it starred Cary Elwes and Robin Wright and that there was a bad six-fingered man in it, and for years I didn't know which film that was (no internet back then). And once internet did come into my life, I often saw mentions of this really amazing film called "The Princess Bride", and I looked it up, and there it was, that great-unknown-film from my childhood! :)

Because of this film and "Robin Hood: Men In Tights" Cary Elwes will always be in my heart.

The title made it hard for my husband to imagine that he could possibly like “The Princess Bride”. But I convinced him to see it with me (“Come on, you picked the last movie.”), and it was, of course, a total winner! We were living in New York at the time, for one of his contract jobs, and when we saw the headlines this week announcing the movie’s 25th anniversary, our amazed reaction included, “You mean it’s been 25 YEARS since we were in New York?!” Doesn’t seem possible. “The Princess Bride” is one of the all-time great movies, and I’ve never met anyone who didn’t love it!

I too have a hard time believing this movie just hasn't always been around, like some great fairy tale or mythological story.

I recently had an opportunity to watch a beat-up old film copy (complete with scratches and a couple rough cuts, which made the whole thing even more charming) on the big screen at a local theater, and not only was it terrific fun to see it in a room full of fans, but I found myself laughing at stuff I hadn't laughed at before. What a great movie.
