So last night, just as I was dozing off (late, since I'm up late every night trying to finish this book!) my iPhone, which was charging on my nightstand, suddenly lit up and started buzzing because it was giving me an alert I had in there for today. And when I groggily picked it up and looked, I was pleasantly surprised to see that... today is the birthday of my blog!!
So yay for Nik at Nite! Happy 4th birthday (Hurley number!!) Happy birthday to the blog, and to all of you who have been coming on here (even when I'm not actually posting anything, and for that I'm eternally grateful). Our little community is getting older (sniff... they grow up so fast, don't they?)
And on that note I want to say I WILL be back soon. I finished writing the guide to The End on the weekend, and I hand in the majority of the book this Friday morning, with the remaining couple of chapters zipping over to my editor the following week. And then... I'll be back! I have SO much to catch up on here, starting with:
-finishing my writeups on Slayage!! I still haven't gotten to Day 3, or shared the funny pictures that I took after the panels ended each day
-my visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and the story of being among the first people in the world to see the special preview of the park before its official opening!
-True Blood reviews... it is ROCKING this year!
-and I'll be just in time for Mad Men. Woohoo!!
On my to-watch list for when I'm finished the book: Doctor Who and Supernatural. So watch for the first impressions of a newbie to both of those shows. Plus I have TV books coming out this fall I need to talk about, previews of the fall season, and we all need to find our new obsession. Will it be on in the fall 2010 season?!
Thanks for sticking around, everyone, and I promise to be back here lots in a couple of weeks. Hope to see some of you at Polaris this weekend!! xox

Hahaha
Happy Birthday!
I know I'm only new around, and I hope to stick in and become one with you all, but happy 4th not only to Nikki, but the community too!
Here's to many more years of all things Nik at Nite =D
Woooooooooo!
What day is today/
it's Nik @ Nite's birthday/
What a great day for a birthday/
let's all have some cake!
Congratulations, Miss Nikki Stafford, on another year of fun-filled blogs! Here's to many more!
Also, I've found my new obsession: the new season of Futurama started airing on Comedy Central Thursday nights at 10. I got to watch the first 3 episodes while I was in L.A., but here in Toronto I can't seem to get that network, so I have to watch 'em online. But that show is (IMO) the most under-estimated show on TV. It's super-clever & funny and a little dark & twisted, and this new season's been great! I highly reccomend it to all, especially sci-fi fans!
Heck, Nikki, there's no unofficial Futurama guide yet, you should get on that! LoL
We are 4! We are 4! Now how does that translate into island years? Or was that dog years? Vincent?
Wow, we made it. :)
Suggestion for our next obsession - even though it has been on for 2 years(!)... I would highly recommend Fringe.
Elements of LOST but different in lots of ways. Extremely interesting and highly entertaining.
My 2 cents worth. LOL
@SenexMacDonald
Or Breaking Bad. It's not back for another 12 months, but it is mindblowingly good. (Don't get me wrong, I'm also a strong follower of Fringe, too =P)
Yay, we're four! How fitting it's a LOST number! :) Here's to the new obsession...to be figured out. I can say that my movie obsession in the Fall will be HP and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. :)
It's not an obsession, but I'm really enjoying Hot In Cleveland.
Mad Men's a comin'. :) Yay!!
Yippee! Hooray! (*Tossing imaginary confetti*)
I would've sworn this blog was older that 4! I'm so glad to be a part of this Fellowship. Bless you all!
Yay! Happy birthday, nikkistafford.blogspot! Hey, on your facebook didn't you say you were gonna start writing books about Glee?
YEAH! 4 years old... congrats!
We just started watching the new Dr. Who, so it'll be fun to get your take on it!
Can't wait to see you this weekend :D
As a relative newcomer to "Doctor Who", I was a little nervous about having to break in a new Doctor when I had just gotten used to David Tennant, but I have to say that I took an immediate and lasting shine to both The Raggedy Doctor and Amy Pond.
On the subject of "Fringe", I think "Fringe" is JJ's third best series (so far). The first 2 seasons have been plagued by far too many unsatisfying standalone episodes and momentum robbing hiatuses. Fortunately, I think (hope) that "Fringe" has arrived at a point in the story where it can no longer return to the gooey freak-of-the-week autopsies that it reeled off in the first 1.5 seasons without losing credibility with viewers that have come this far.
Sure, when JJ was out pimping "Fringe" in 2008, he took every opportunity to throw "Alias" under the bus for being opaque, and he assured would-be fans that "Fringe" would never dream of committing similar crimes against humanity by alienating the coveted "casual viewer" who felt like dropping in for 3 or 4 episodes a year. But, like it or not, "Fringe" is now crossing the border into commitment territory, where JJ's faithful band of casual viewers have to decide whether they're in or they're out.
IMO, "Fringe" will be a better show when it cuts the casual viewer adrift once and for all, and becomes the hardcore serial it should have been from the beginning. So what if JJ and Grunberg can't follow along?
Happy B-day Nik at Nite!
I can still recall that day, lo those many (3+) years ago, when I stumbled upon this blog after having read Nikki's LOST recaps elsewhere ... and discovered a Whole New World of Fun. And to think, we skipped right over the Terrible Two's!! Here's to the best Blog Mommy who ever trimmed the crusts off of our Dharma Peanut Butter sandwich. Congrats, Nik!
P.S. It does my heart good to read a blog post inspired by an iPhone alert ... *sniff* They grow up so FAST.
As my then-three-year-old niece exclaimed once when she was very excited (she saw a large anthropomorphic cat at a local mall - kids are easily amused): Sing... Dance...YAY!!!!!
Happy Birthday Nik at Nite! It's still the only site on the web that I visit every day to see if there's a new post. Looking forward to your take on this season of True Blood, Nik! Also the final Slayage posts (I've been loving those). And congrats on getting the book finished! Cannot wait for that one!
Joyeux Anniversaire! Nik at Nite remains my favorite place on the internet. We miss you, Nikki, and anxiously await your caravan's triumphant return to the pop culture superhighway.
Congrats! Your blog is an inspiration and a daily must-read. Here's to many more years.
Can't wait for the HP post...and the book...and more on Slayage...and, and, and...can't wait to see what's next!
Belated Happy Birthday, Nik at Nite! For that matter, Happy Belated Birthday! A very merry unbirthday to you!
I can't believe that I've only known you for 4 years. It feels like it's been a lot longer.
Doctor Who and Supernatural? Very good choices!
Happy Happy!!
Fringe
Mad Men
Harry P
I'm cheap so I do not pay for the extra channels that have the other good stuff. But it sounds like I should.
I *almost* said what about continuing our Lost obsession, but then thought better of it.
Why is it that I feel more obsessed when I check in on Nikki three times per week now than I did 2 months ago when the frequency was more like 3 times per hour? Congrats on turning four. Good to see a few familiar names among the comments, and I promise no haiku. I'm really bad at keeping promises.
Looking forward to your book, the HP world espionage and, as others have said, whatever amazing insight into whatever you focus on next, Nik!
Happy Birthday! How about a new rewatch for a birthday present?
Yay! A happy birthday to thee, Nik at Nite!
You should do also blog about Peep Show and Gavin & Stacy. I'm pretty sure you've heard of both shows, and may have easy access to watching Peep Show (though I don't know why I think that). :)
Yay! Happy Birthday - 4 years and getting better all the time :D Wish I could see you guys this weekend - work schedule won't allow it :( Have a great time and take lots of pics! Then I'll draw a smiley face head into them and pretend I was there!
Also, my new obsession is watching Lost reruns in French and crying. I watch Hell's Kitchen and other shows too shameful to mention. They are all pale impostors of my Love.
DOCTOR WHO!!!!
I started watching on Netflix a couple months ago and became obsessed. I hope that you love it as much as I did and I will definitely do a re-watch along side your newbie watch.
Supernatural is also on my list of shows to watch.
Oh yeah, duh.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIK AT NITE!!!!!
Happy Birthday, Nik at Nite! Here's to many, many more!
I luuuuurve Doctor Who. It's second only to LOST. And I agree with Page 48 about the new doctor and Amy Pond. I was prepared to dislike them immensely (having a bit of a deep, abiding love for David Tennant's Doctor) but they really are quite great.
Bonne anniversaire to your blog, Nikki. Thanks for always being here for us Losties. We love you!
The first five seasons of Supernatural were probably the most enjoyable television of the past few years for me. I began watching on DVD and got hooked — a great thing, as I needed something that didn't involve the overthinking and increasingly the flat-out frustration of Lost, yet wasn't quite as "enjoy it while you watch it then forget it 'til next time" like CSI; I highly recommend devouring the whole series before the next season starts.
I think Fringe is a great choice for a new group obsession. Chuck has really held up, surprisingly, especially if you ignore the idiot antics of his day-job coworkers. Bones and Castle are both good, solid television; unlike Fringe and even Chuck, though, they don't have the mythology that one might expect of the next primary topic here on Nik at Nite. Then again, we don't necessarily need just One Big Show.
Given that my cable situation is screwed up, anything not from the broadcast networks can't be watched in real time right now. I caught up with Breaking Bad in batches via On Demand visiting family and Mad Men will require a similar tack; I'm only halfway through the previous season of the awesome True Blood on Netflix, and I've never seen Doctor Who. Hopefully at least some of the main discussion here will be about something accessible to li'l old me. Perhaps the sudsy but surprisingly satisfying Vampire Diaries, which hooked me in repeats this summer, can be dropped into the mix.
And then there's Glee, which I know some other regulars here groove on. Fringe, Mad Men, Glee... There's a bounty of diverse, innovative, quality programming out there, without even looking ahead to new shows.
Of course, I still miss Veronica Mars.
Sorry for the double- (or triple-) post! I hit "Publish" and was told the comment was too big, so I split it up without looking at the bottom of the page, only to find the first post got published after all. Sorry also if all the links to my own blog are perceived as bad form, but it's just further reading if you want it and pretty blue letters if you don't. 8^)
Indeed a momentous occasion Nikki! You deserve all the kudos for the hard work and building your fan base! To the future and many more blog posts to come!
Happy Birthday!!!
Just got on here because I has been in Hawaii(Kauai)& haven't had a chance to do ANYthing, except give my granddaughter lots of hugs & kisses! I have to say SHE is the only thing that is more important than LOST. Well, I guess MAYbe my hubby!
ANYway, Happy Birthday to your blog!
