Weekend Food for Thought

If you could enter the universe of one television show and live there either momentarily or permanently, which one would you choose, and why? This not only would include the world itself depicted (i.e. the neighbourhoods, cities, planet in some cases) but the characters who are on that show. Is there a series where you'd love to have the main characters as your friends? Or one that features a universe you'd like to live in for one reason or another? Tell us which one, your reasons why, and whether you'd like to live there permanently or just drop by before returning to your regularly scheduled life. ;)

No contest. Doctor Who, hands down.

To be able to travel through space and time, save worlds, meet historical figures...not to mention, IT'S THE DOCTOR!

Oh, and definitely permanently. I mean, even if I'm going for 100 years, I can still be back in five minutes. ;)

Oh hands down for me, the Firefly universe living on Captain Reynolds' ship, Serenity! Heck, I'd love to be part of his medical crew with Simon Tam.

I may not be a doctor like Simon, but I think I'm a hell of a good nurse! ;)

Travel to different planets, wacky adventures with a handful of fun characters, live of a spaceship, and (I shamelessly admit) meet Companions would be so much awesomeness.

I love me some outer space, so get me outta the world and keep me on Serenity FOREVER!

Well, I could hardly turn down life on the TARDIS with "Doctor Who" or on Serenity with the "Firefly" crew. But I don't know how I could ever narrow it down to one show.

I could easily settle into the pressure-free environment of Mayberry with Andy and Barney and Opie and "Aint" Bee, where no real harm could ever come to anyone.

But then I might get bored and wish that I'd chosen the adrenaline rush of "Alias", where Syd could meet me out near the oil rigs and tell me "you have to listen to me, YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME"

I'd like to awaken from stasis aboard the Destiny in 3 years time to find out if Ely made it.

Who wouldn't long for membership in the Scooby Gang, hanging with the coolest people in Sunnydale...and Giles?

Would I ever get tired of searching for artifacts with Claudia and Myka, especially if Artie made cookies?

With these and dozens of other great options, can I just make the rounds?

Doctor Who is the obvious correct answer to this question. But since that's already been covered, I'll just add that working in Jed Bartlet's White House is a career move that I very much wish I could make.

I would possibly live in Supernatural. There's plenty of scary feinds, but the sheer awesomesauce of being a hunter would be enough to balance it out. And I'd hang out with Sam, Bobby and Dean who don't normally leave guys on the crew behind, and would probably bring me back anyway.

Oooh, I'd like to live in Bon Temp for a little while. It would be a silly and interesting stay. Not too long though; it's too hot and employment sucks... but just long enough for an inter-species pregnancy-scare* or something ;D

*"I'ma gonna be Queen Panther Mama!"

Ew, I hate those werepanthers. Them and their collective 8 teeth.

Great question!
Hmm, people have mentioned Dr. Who and Buffy, which are excellent choices that I would give some serious consideration to (especially with all of that, you know, TIME TRAVEL and stuff).

Fringe would be a pretty awesome world to live in (BOTH of the Fringe worlds, actually).
The world of Community would be one hilarious adventure after another.
Fresh Prince would be great, too, palling around with Will and Carlton all day.

But I think my FINAL answer would have to be Party of Five; solely because I would get to hang out with Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and the beautiful Lacey Chabert (in this fantasy she would be older than she usually was on the show).
:P
And, considering the company I'd be keeping, I would definitely agree to a PERMANENT stay LoL

Easy. Star Trek, the original series. C'mon, it's a no brainer: big hair, teeny skirts, high-tech, clean, and Kirk, Spock, and Bones to get you out of any scrapes. Only... no red shirts. I look better in sciences blue anyway.

Much live for Breaking bad, but -- no way in hell.

Hells yeah, Question Mark, I second the Neve Campbell "Party of Five" crush.

Second choice: The Big Bang Theroy. It's a lot like our world, but meeting some fellow nerds especially these ones would rock. Not to mention they have a knack for running into celbrities. Stan Lee for instance.

I think I DO live in The Big Bang Theory. ;)

Hmmm. Quite a difficult decision. My favourite TV shows are "Lost" and "Buffy", but I don't know whether I'd want to live in those universes. I hate camping, and nature, so I certainly wouldn't want to live in the "Lost" universe (except maybe the flash-sideways). I'd perhaps like to visit the "Buffy" universe, to spend time with the characters (Season 5 characters probably) but I'd only want to be there at a point where I wouldn't have to fight or be at risk of dying or being kidnapped.

In terms of a universe I'd like to live in permanently, I'd probably have to say "Numb3rs". I'm a bit of a maths geek, so I'd love to be working at CalSci with Charlie, Amita and Larry, and helping them to solve crimes for the FBI. That's like my ideal job (although I'd probably need to be a bit cleverer that I actually am to be able to keep up with them). As a second choice, I imagine that it would be quite fun to live in the universe of "A Town Called Eureka" (I think in the States it's just called "Eureka"). Having access to all those awesome sci-fi type devices would be awesome.

My choice would be "Big Bang Theory", but I'd have to have to be as genius as Sheldon, and I want to sit on that side of the couch. I'd be able to go with the guys to the Cheese Cake Factory on Tuesday for a substitute Big Boy burger, and Mondays would be Pad Thai, and Friday Tangerine Chicken, with Weekends paintball or science fiction marathons. Work would be just staring at a formula with Sheldon and Raj on the white board, and after a hard day's slogging I'd just change a number. But I wouldn't go home down Euclid Avenue, and especially not on Howard's scooter. Further there's no life threatening dangers like on most other shows--really, how long would I last on the island, or on some spaceship, or traveling through time? Besides, the idea that life is a comedy is appealing. And who wouldn't want to hang out with a bunch of science gods?
Incidentally, the weather is just fine in Pasadena--no sudden rain storms, galactic whatever weather, and there is the Rose Bowl parade and kite flying.

I applaud Fred. I'm so happy they got a 3 season pick-up. My dream series finale would be them at Comic Con. I've already got a few ideas on how it would play out.

Permanently - Friends - they have HUGE NYC apartments and can afford them on retail and non-working actors salaries. But I would bring my own love interest.

Unfortunately, all the shows I love, I would probably get killed in.

My choice goes along with popular opinion -- Doctor Who. It would be cool to travel anywhere and anywhen you'd like, plus the Doctor is usually a fun person to hang around with.

1974 Dharma candidate. But leave the island before the purge and write sci-fi from my experiences. Hang out with Young Ben, Goodspeed, Lafleur, Juliette, Jin, etc.

Pawnee, Indiana. I would work in the parks and rec department ith Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Nick Offerman, and Rob Lowe. Funny coworkers, besides, Pawnee is the one of the greatest--no, it's THE greatest city in the world!

This is one of those "wishing for more wishes" kinds of answers, but I'd choose to live in the world of Star Trek: TNG, because then I'd have a holodeck and could visit the worlds of all the other shows I love whenever I wanted.

No question: I'd jump into Star Trek: The Next Generation.

You have adventure if you want it, but on Earth, particularly, also a largely peaceful, bigotry-free society with a fine standard of living and — the key component to me — astounding health care. Once my physical issues were cured or kept at bay, if I got bored I could take my chances exploring the galaxy with a dedicated crew who were not only fiercely devoted to their duties and to one another but were also incredibly cultured and productive during their off-hours. The computer basically knows everything, but in a non-threatening way, and the holodecks let you visit places from within your and others' imaginations as well as incredible reproductions of times and places from your own memory, so, like, whoa.

For me, I think I'd want to live with the people on How I Met Your Mother. They seem really fun- and as an added bonus there is no risk of death or bodily harm :)

I'm with Blam: Star Trek: TNG all the way. While DS9 is my preferred Trek there's too much war and stuff there to want to hang out on the station. But TNG gives me all the perks with none of the downsides (the occasional Borg attack aside): any and all food and drink available at my command, holodecks, teleportation, android buddies, and most health concerns treated with the click and hiss of a hypospray.

Plus, you play your cards right, you get to hear Picard tell someone to "make it so" in person.

I'm gonna have to go along with the Star Trek theme presented by my erstwhile fellow commentors Sir Blam and Mister Tee, but I'd head for Deep Space Nine. Why? Two words. Jadzia and Dax. Mmmmmm.... symbionts....
