Pushing Daisies, Ep 3: The Fun in Funeral
Oh my god, this show just gets better and better.... there were so many moments where I laughed out loud in this ep, and just loved every minute of it. I've already watched it twice, it was THAT good. I hope this show lasts forever.

And when I said last week that I feel like this show was written just for me, it REALLY seemed like that this week. When Emerson got stuck in the window, all I could think was that he was like Winnie the Pooh stuck in Rabbit's doorway, mostly because I had JUST read that story to my daughter last night. And then... Chuck says, "you're just like Pooh!!" and by the time she yelled, "Kick, Pooh, KICK!" and he spontaneously kicked his leg, knocking out Woodruff, I was howling (my son had just dozed off in my arms and he startled awake, I was laughing so hard).

Other fave moments:
-Emerson being so annoyed that Chuck is at his "private meeting" that he shuffles out of the booth, practically knocking her on the floor.
-Olive asking the herbal remedy salesman if he'd ever felt like the oxygen going out of the room, and the storyteller explaining that the man had a pathological fear of just that, and that he'd be sucked out of the earth's atmosphere... hahaha!!
-Olive treating him like a drug dealer: "This is a pie house, not some herbal craft den!"
-the flashback to Ned as a little kid discovering the one-minute rule
-The 1950s feel to everything -- the costumes, the cars, the decor, the travelling salesman...
-Louis wearing the Darling Mermaid Darlings T-shirt
-Aunt Lily lifting her eye patch so the pool of tears can fall out, HA!
-Olive dramatically ducking in fear as the bird flies over her during the pie delivery, and then holding her chest as she runs down the stairs... I love this actress!
-the discussion of the name of the Pie Hole
-Emerson telling Louis that The Rapture killed them all
-"Gimme your paws, Pooh!"
-the story of the Chinese slave who became a Civil War hero, and the accent Wilfred has, making him sound like he's from the deep south. I laughed out loud at the bit about his great great great great grandfather running southeast when everyone else ran north. "Some say it was the hand of destiny, while others thought it was heatstroke."
-Ned channeling his inner Jedi
-Ned listing off the choices we make in our lives and including, "Kiss her or keep her." Awww...
-"Kick, Pooh, Kick!" hahahaha... it never gets old!
-Chuck and Ned gift-wrapping all of the stolen stuff.
-The line, "I'm gonna see if I've got some plastic wrap" actually being the most romantic line I heard on TV all week.

That is funny, I thought "Wow, it is just like Pooh." I wonder if Jen is laughing at this because of the KID. And you were!! My favourite was about the guyere being baked in the pie crust - I LOVE THEIR OBSESSION WITH CHEESE!

I have my brother, his daughter and her mother watching now.

And Buffy and Doctor Who too. Oh, the power :)

Did you realize the funeral directors were played by Parkman's brother? I saw the name Brad Grunberg (and the face) and looked him up.

Wow, it hasn't even aired yet. Anyone can tell you what they thought AFTER it airs, but only Nikki can tell you before :-)

It aired, Brian - blame Canada.

Sheila: Times have changed
Our kids are kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Sharon: Should we blame the government?
Liane: Or blame society?
Dads: Or should we blame the images on TV?
Sheila: No! Blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their beady little eyes
And flappin' heads so full of lies
Everyone: Blame Canada!
Blame Canada!
Sheila: We need to form a full assault
Everyone: It's Canadas fault!
Sharon: Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan!
Liane: And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to myself!
Sheila: Well, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
[Blame Canada lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along!
Everyone: Blame Canada!
Blame Canad!a
Some Guy: They're not even a real country, anyway
Ms. McCormick: My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer rich and true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue
Everyone: Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Sheila: Heck no!
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their hockey hubbabaloo
Liane: And that bitch Anne Murray too
Everyone: Blame Canada!
Shame on Canada
The we must stop
The trash we must smash
Laughter and fun
must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming us!

Ah, now I can comment.

Yes, it was a glorious episode. Can I say how much I love Chi McBride on this show? His expressions(verbal and non-verbal) are hilarious.

The little side stories are the best...the guy and his air sucking worried, the Chinese person running southeast, etc.

And I like how every week they give us a little peek into Ned's childhood and more details about his 'power.'

I never want this show to go away. Never.

Kristin: Sorry!! I didn't realize it aired on a different schedule here. I'll have to try to remember to post a day later (problem is, I so rarely get on a computer anymore that when I find time to post, I just post). I was so excited about the ep I wanted to post on it right away. I'm glad you told me, because I'll continue putting the show's title in the top to steer people away who haven't seen it (and I'll put a spoiler tag from now on). I was going to title it "Kick, Pooh, KICK!" but didn't, and I'm so glad I didn't. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm with you... I want this show to go on as long as the Simpsons. :) Chi McBride is THE BEST.

Brian: I'd love to say I have magical powers, but as Colleen says, my magical powers all lie in me being a Canuck and seeing it a day earlier. :)

In case you didn't know, Olive is played by Kristin Chenoweth, who's a Broadway star--she played Galinda in the original cast of Wicked, and she had her own short-lived show on TV called "Kristin".

I think I read that she quit Wicked to pursue television and film, and it might have begun with Nicole Kidman seeing her performance on Broadway and asking her to be a part of her upcoming movie, "Bewitched" (she plays the next-door neighbor). Kristin is really talented--listen to her sing "Taylor the Latte Boy". It's great!
