Finding Joan Crawford!

I don't know if you follow Nik at Nite regular Joan Crawford's blog, but if you don't... check it out. And warning: unless you want to replace your keyboard or laptop every time you check the blog, don't be drinking anything while reading it. It's HILARIOUS. Lately she's been posting about her new bangs and how they're driving her nuts (been there, done that...) and I swear I was laughing so hard my sides were hurting while I was reading about her adventures and her husband's comments. So I asked her to send a pic of herself for this blog, and emphasized that I'm sure those bangs will be in fine form. And... she didn't disappoint. May I present, the brilliant and beautiful Joan Crawford!

NICE! O Joan, those heavenly bangs would put Billy Idol to shame. Brain Setzer himself would sell his guitar to have bangs like that! Why, Atia could have ruled Rome ITSELF with bangs of that magnitude.

P.S. We have similar discussions in my house all the time. My sweetheart is never satisfied with her bangs. (and, to be fair, there are clearly days where, *ahem*, her bangs and not satisfied with her. Fight on! Let not the bangs win the war!

Joan:

I feel your pain. I fight the battle of the bangs every day. I am never sure to grow them, cut them, sweep them to the side, wear them straight across, etc.

Most recently, I had my stylist cut them on a wedged angle… going from shorter on the right side to longer on the left. (This girl is not afraid of an edgy hairstyle!)

I may finally be finding some peace:) May you and your bangs find some peace as well.

Yay Joan! Love the pic. Love your blog. Every time I read it I am inspired to go do something crazy. Or at least pretend to do something crazy. Or blog about doing something crazy.

I love your bangs! They remind me of my own... Only yours are a bit more... Happy? Mine tend to spazz off to the side.

Hey, Joan! I feel like Kermit the Frog announcing the Special Guest on this week's "Muppet Show". "It's JOAN CRAWFORD, YAAAAAAYYY!!" Please don't be shy, we all love you!

Being British I find the word 'bangs' really really weird. Any idea why y'all call them that?

Marebabe said...

@Ali Bags: Interesting question, and one that I didn’t know the answer to, so I popped on over to Wikipedia and found the following:

The term bangs is widely used in North America but is not widely recognized elsewhere. It originally referred to hair cut bang-off (straight across at the front), although the term is now applied to diverse forms of fringe. It is probably related to bang-tail, a term still used for the practice of cutting horses' tails straight across.

Fascinating. As my husband is so fond of saying, “You learn something new every time you pay attention."

@humanebean: Ordinarily, I would never draw attention to another person’s typographical errors, but your use of “Brain Setzer” made me smile. Only because I’m a fan of Family Guy, and in S1 Brian was persuaded to enter a dog agility competition in hopes of winning prize money that would get the Griffin family a new (much-needed) air conditioner. So, when it was his turn to compete, the announcer got his name wrong: “Next up, BRAIN Griffin..." It was cute. :)

When I got my (now semi-nonexistent) bangs in summer of 2008, they mostly behaved, but sometimes they were not my favourite things in the world. Growing them out is a pain.

Love the pic of Joan!

@marebabe - hahahahahaha! I hadn't even noticed. I usually check a post twice to make sure I haven't said or done anything egregiously stupid, but clearly that was a Freudian slip! I consider, um, BRIAN Setzer a guitar genius so I must have been channeling my inner fan.

For NO apparent reason, your Family Guy anecdote reminded me of the movie A Boy Named Charlie Brown where Charlie enters the National Spelling Bee and makes it to the finals (I think). His word? "beagle". As Snoopy jumps up and down manically in the front row, Charlie proceeds to spell it "B-E-A-G-E-L", losing the contest. BOY, can I identify. ; ]

Love the picture Joan! And the bangs look wonderful all wind-swept like that! :)

You guys are reminding me of a hilarious episode of Pinky and the Brain when it was still part of the Animaniacs, one that was modelled on an episode of the Honeymooners (the one where Ralph gets to go on Name that Tune). In this episode, Brain gets on Jeopardy, and every time Alex Trebek comes to him he says, "And Brian, it's your turn." and the mouse counters, "IT'S BRAIN."

Oh Pinky and the Brain. How I miss you. :) (I have a stuffed Brain doll who sits next to my computer and watches me type. He's going to help me take over the world... at least that's what he PROMISED he'd do.)

Hahaha! Brian Setzer :D That is some funny stuff!

Thanks everybody! What nice stuff to say :) - it is causing a warming sensation in my tummy that is most unsettling ;)

I love you all, my little grouping of little weirdies - my people!

Joan, I'm reading your blog for the first time (can't believe I haven't before) and right now I'm reading Iceland - Part One. Oh, the farting - my sides, they are hurting with laughter. Awesome blog! Awesome bangs! Awesome pic!!!

AWESOME! The bangs are everything I've dreamed of and more!

Oh, Joan, you saucy minx, you!

Zach Morris would indeed be PROUD of those bangs!

Just the other day my wife asked me one of those bangs-related questions with just no good answer...

@Nikki re: Pinky and the Brain:

I used to watch that show all the time with my brothers! I wasn't as a huge fan as my brothers were. I can sort of remember it. I would watch it, and the Animaniacs every day with them when they got home from school (this was before I started school full time. Oh, the kindergarten days . . . ).

A follow-up comment if I may, Joan Collins: I do not blame you for concealing part of your visage, eh, based on what has been left uncovered, but to my chagrin that dastardly book obscures any evidence of what the schoolchildren today call ligature marks, and it is my most fervent hooope to see the remnants of your aborted strangulation at the hands of the Greek-American enchantress Maria Menounos. Please rectify this situation fooorwith, eh.

Now my apologies for miswriting your name, Ms. Crawfish. I am nothing if not a gentleman, eh, but at times excitement gets the best of me.

Joan Crawford said...

@Batcabbage - Haha! Thanks :)

@Teebore, Palindrome and Falen - Aw, you guys :) My Minnesota Posse.

@Evil Blam - Aaaaaahahahaahaha! Hoo, I am in love with your comments.

Joan and my comments, eh! Sitting in a tree! @-#-$-%-i-n-g!

Joan Crawford said...

LOL!!!!

I'm too classy for a tree. A nice bed of pine needles, some wine, your comments - that's another story.

Blam said...

You seem to love your husband, Joan, so think hard about how he'll feel when you come home, bangs mussed and full of pine needles, reeking of pinot noir, with bad Canadian vowels smeared all over your face.

Joan Crawford said...

Hehe!

"Joan, are those another man's Canadian vowels smeared all over you? And *sniff* you smell evil!"

"Baby! I loves you, you know I do but I was seduced by his words...literally! And why are you calling me by my blog name?"

Pinot Noir is my favorite!

Re: Pinky and the Brain - I adore that show, it's one of the ones I actually own the series on DVD. Recently I caught a hidden message in the intro theme that I never would have noticed before Lost made me examine everything much more closely

Ahh.
Brain Seltzer, eh.

Evil Blam said...

Aha, eh. I have learned why The Joan Crawford seeks to conceal her visage, and the minions of The Nikki Stafford should be made aware of the ugly truth! Although confirming that the harpy has been rendered undead by the Greek-American enchantress Maria Menounos makes her strangely palatable to me.

SonshineMusic said...

@Evil Blam: That picture left me breathless. (I'll leave it up to your interpretation whether it was from the sheer horror or the mad case of giggles I got at the same time)

@Evil Blam - LOL! Love it :D
