I found this chart on Malene Arpe's blog today and it made me laugh and laugh and laugh... even if it's partly (or muchly) poking fun at me. Still freakin' hilarious.
Also, thanks to redeem147 for sending me this link. Many people pointed out after "Ab Aeterno" that Jacob's wine-bottle explanation basically suggested that the island was on the hellmouth. And I loved that link and was very excited to sit down and work out all of the Buffy/Lost relationships... until someone else beat me to it. DAMMIT. Oh well, this is still awesome. Read here for the full description. Meanwhile, I'm going to write a book on it. (OK, no I'm not.)
Speaking of which, I made the uber-stupid and yet uber-awesome suggestion the other day that when Lost is over, maybe it's time for a big Buffy rewatch!! Many of you are fans, and many of you are wondering why I constantly go on and on about a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for god's sakes. Well, maybe it's time you found out. Should we try one? I think I'll need helpers... I'm not sure I can helm something like that the way I did the Lost one, especially since I'm looking to have a break for a bit, but I'll still be watching along and loving it. If you think you'd be interested in such a thing, I'll be heading to Slayage in June (a Whedon academic conference) and will be recruiting helpers there. How will I recruit? Think: Man in Black.
And after Buffy watch... THE WIRE WATCH!! Ahem. I may be getting ahead of myself here...
And finally, tune in later this week when I finally post what Lost is TRULY all about... written by someone who has never seen a single episode. Many of you probably follow that Never Watched Lost blog (and while I find it entertaining, I don't actually believe the person never watched the show before now) but I can truly vouch for this person never having watched the show, and yet he sent me his thoughts on it after only listening to me yammer about Lost for an hour to a group of people last week, and... let's just say we need to get this guy the DVDs soon. ;)

I'm definitely down for Buffy re-watch. Or for me, it would be a first-watch. But I am really interested in seeing it now:)
Will the schedule be as hectic as the Lost re-watch? I know with Lost we were working toward a specific time-line, so it had to be done quickly:P
Shockingly I have never seen Buffy, but all the comments I hear about around here may have got me interested....
I may have to join in with the rewatch but as a first-time watch like Jenn.
Just please tell me it is nothing like any other vampire related series that I could mention???
I'd love to do a Buffy re-watch! It'd be a 'first watch' for me, but I've heard lots of great things about it. I was actually already planning to start watching it after Lost ends :)
I LOVE this chart. It screams accurate with the many friends I know that are one or combinations of these fans. I caught myself so bad with the Firefly column.
A Buffy re-watch sounds like such a fun idea Nikki! I am so up for that.
Could we go as far as an (dare I say) Angel re-watch? C'mon, give me a reason to see Numfar's Dance of Joy one more time!!
WV: consmso - Sawyer's go-to magazine in response to the lady fav mag "Cosmo"
"Never watched LOST guy" only "occasionally entertaining?" Come on, Nicky, he is hilarious. Even if he has seen LOST before, the comments are just wonderful. I'm looking forward to them almost (almost...) as much as tonight's episode. Lighten up.
I love a re-watch.
A Buffy one is a no-brainer.
Nikki,do you watch the new Doctor Who? If not, I highly recommend it. If so, re-watch!
I love TV.
I would definately be interested in a Buffy rewatch, although for me it'll be more of a watch than a rewatch, having only ever watched about 2 episodes in my life, and I think I was still in primary school :)
I'm all for it. Never seen even ONE episode, by my husband was/is a HUGE fan. Suffice it to say that I can't let go of this community that I've just discovered within the past year. Looking forward to tonight...Carlton and Damon's twitter posts indicate a change in the conversation. HOPE???!!!
I would DEFINITLEY do a Buffy re-watch and would even volunteer to try to help out, although I don't know how I would do that.
Keep us updated. :)
No sure about Buffy, but def in for The Wire!
That fandom chart was great -- I especially liked the LOST-related "honeymoon" comment.
I actually watched "Buffy" because of you, Nikki. You wrote a great column awhile back about Slayage (I think it was last year) and how shows like "Buffy" can truly be looked at as academic endeavors, not just mindless entertainment. So, I watched the whole series through Netflix and was addicted from the Pilot.
A "Buffy" re-watch would be awesome, and I'd love to host some of it over at my blog, or help create a new re-watch blog with you. Whatever you'd like. Talk about fun!
Enjoy "LOST" tonight, everyone!
I might be interested since I've never watched the show. I did see the movie though. :) My mom LOVED the show and Angel too.
I have another good one to suggest...Six Feet Under anyone? Fantastic writing and acting!
Buffy (re)watch - yes
Wire (re)watch - very yes
Never watched Lost guy - he's got some good lines, and I have definitely had some laugh out loud moments.
Love the chart. What's wrong with analyzing the finale on your honeymoon? :)
@Jazzygirl - I would be down with SFU
@JS: SFU is a great and definitely worth it, and I'm not just saying that as an alumni...
oh wait, you're talking Six Feet Under and NOT Simon Fraser University... my bad!
Just please tell me it is nothing like any other vampire related series that I could mention???
Angel the Series is a tiny bit like Forever Knight - oh, not what you meant?
Then no.
Great minds think alike. I have the whole box set of Buffy untouched, never watched, just waiting to fill the void after Lost!
I'm so down with a Buffy rewatch! To those of you who have never seen the show before: be prepared for some of the best writing and acting to ever hit television. "High school is hell" is not just a cliche for this show. There are many books written on it for SO many reasons.
@EvaHart: It is nothing like you have ever seen before...just read Nikki's shirt ("Twilight" ha!)
Ack I need to go to bed but I wanted to read Nikki's recap! :( Such an amazing ep and I KNOW she's going to have a LOT to say for many reasons! I guess I'll have to read it at some point tomorrow and by then there will probably be over 100 posts. LOL
@Gracie/Jazzgirl: And I watch the Canadian feed at 7:00, that's an extra 2 HOURS to wait... luckily I watch hockey while cleaning my notes and then V is on, keeping me occupied while waiting.
Just hang in there!
When Buffy was on the air, it was my favorite show. I don't really claim shows as my favorite, I just enjoy them, (or not). But Buffy sparked something passionate in me, to the point that I could get mildly annoyed at "haters." I can't think of any other show that's been like that other than Lost. But for me, there's no comparison. It might have been the pilot, or the Walkabout/White Rabbit combo, but I fell head over heels. Lost is so incredible, I doubt there will be any show that ever beats it for me. Not Twin Peaks, not BSG, not Sopranos, not Mad Men, not Six Feet Under - nada. (However, I'm waiting until its over to watch the Wire, which is so lauded I'm sure it will be up there in my echelon).
That is one really funny chart! The "How to Piss One Off" column was hysterical!
Oh, I'm so down for a Buffy rewatch!
And I'd be more than happy to help facilitate it any way I can, whether here, on my blog, or elsewhere.
PS That chart is beyond hilarious, especially since I'm so many of those people...
Nikki, where are you?
JS said...
Nikki, where are you?
I second that motion
I saw the original "Buffy" movie in theaters, but I've never seen any of the TV series. But I'm completely game to invest in the Season One DVD's and learn what all the fuss has been about. I think it will be interesting to have a mix of novices and old pros sharing the experience. I JUST NOW got the idea that, in the years to come, that may be what keeps this wonderful fraternity together. We could work our way through all sorts of wonderful series. Anyone for a little "Arrested Development"?
Sorry I'm so late, guys... I had to go to a book launch tonight (why it was put on the ONE NIGHT I'm not available is beyond me... but I guess I wasn't exactly a priority when they were booking it, despite it being one of the books I edited). Anyway.
And Marcia, I wasn't meaning to diss the Never Watched Lost guy... I read his blog a couple of times and I didn't find it laugh-out-loud hilarious, but it was good. Ack Attack is more my thing.
I don't think I'm the one who needs to lighten up. ;)
